Officer Marc Kahre joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as a cadet on October 2, 1973, and became a commissioned officer in 1975. On October 11, 1988, he spotted a car with a suspect who earlier had fired several gunshots through his ex-girlfriend’s front door. The suspect stopped abruptly, jumped out of his car and began shooting at Officer Kahre who was on his motorcycle. Officer Kahre was 34.
